It’s all about The Gujon | The Good One | The Guji Baby. It might be known by many names but it leaves a lasting impression of deeply, satisfied AWE. If you haven’t tasted it yet, it may leave you doubtful that this mix of flavours and ingredients can be thought of by many as LIFE CHANGING. We’ll be honest, being so good looking helped – long before food styling for Instagram was a thing. But the ultimate test is always in the taste.
It all starts with fresh and seasoned Asian slaw strategically placed next to oh so tempting shoestring fries and, of course, served in a bamboo boat. With piles of Southern style crispy, deep fried chicken goujons (the French lingo for deep-fried strips of chicken), and a splash of our 10 hour sweet-chilli sauce, a drizzle of our own aioli, and covered in a snowfall of grated parmesan, the creation is finished with the freshest quarter of watermelon, and finally an edible flower. A mouthful of utter deliciousness, and as far as street food goes, this was a game changer on the Jozi food scene.
Being named in The Guardian UK as one of “Ten amazing food market stalls around the world” was exciting but the queues at the weekend markets proved it, alongside every sticky finger licking smile. This was the one meal that truly defined the beginning of Sumting Fresh, and the jumping off point for the ever-evolving menu.
